The cost structure is also different: Mumbai's higher cost of living translates to higher developer salaries, which means Mumbai studios generally charge more per hour than Bangalore equivalents for comparable technical skill. The offset is often in creative quality and the studio's familiarity with content-heavy entertainment projects.
Mumbai is a smaller game development hub than Bangalore by every metric — fewer studios, shallower talent pool, fewer IGDC speakers based here. For technically complex multiplayer games or projects requiring rare engine expertise, Bangalore or Pune typically offer better options. For games where brand storytelling, animated content, or Bollywood IP licensing is central, Mumbai's studios have relationships that Bangalore doesn't.
