QUICK ANSWER

How many metro stations does Bangalore have in 2026?

Bangalore's Namma Metro has 83 operational stations across 96.1 km of track as of 2026, making it India's second-largest metro after Delhi. The network runs two operational lines: the Purple Line (East–West, 47 km, 44 stations) and the Green Line (North–South, 49.1 km, 51 stations, including elevated and underground sections). Phase 3 extensions are under construction.

What the Metro Is and Isn't Good For

The metro is excellent for: the MG Road–Indiranagar corridor (fastest way to travel that stretch), reaching Whitefield from central Bangalore avoiding ORR traffic, connecting Malleswaram and Yeshwantpur to the city, and getting to Lalbagh or Cubbon Park area without parking.

The metro is not useful for: Electronic City (no line), Koramangala (no direct connection), Sarjapur Road (no line), Bannerghatta Road (no line), or the airport (Phase 3 is under construction with no confirmed opening date as of 2026). For these destinations, Ola and Uber are the practical options.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the metro fare in Bangalore?

Fares range from ₹10 (0–2 km) to ₹60 (above 25 km). Most city-centre journeys cost ₹20–₹40. The maximum fare is ₹60. Smart Card holders get a 10% discount. A day pass for unlimited travel costs ₹100.

Is Namma Metro connected to the airport?

Not yet. As of 2026, there is no metro connection to Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL). Phase 3 of the metro expansion includes an airport connection, but construction timelines have been revised multiple times. Current options for airport transport: Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) Vayu Vajra airport bus (₹150–₹200), or Ola/Uber (₹800–₹1,500 depending on traffic and time of day).

What time does the first Namma Metro run?

The first metro runs at 5:00 AM on both the Purple and Green Lines. The last metro runs at 11:00 PM. This timing applies on weekdays, weekends, and most public holidays. On certain festival days (Republic Day, Independence Day), extended hours or special services may operate — check the BMRCL website for current service alerts.

Does Namma Metro run on Sundays?

Yes. Namma Metro operates seven days a week including Sundays and public holidays, with the same operating hours (5:00 AM–11:00 PM) as weekdays. Frequency is slightly lower during midday Sunday but comparable to weekday off-peak service.

How is Namma Metro different from Mumbai and Delhi Metro?

By scale: Delhi Metro (350+ km, 250+ stations) and Mumbai Metro (80+ km combined across lines) are both larger. By integration: Delhi Metro's integrated ticketing and bus connectivity is better connected. By coverage in its operating area: Bangalore's Purple Line coverage of the east–west tech corridor is well-suited to the city's actual commute patterns. Delhi and Mumbai have older networks with more historical ridership; Bangalore's ridership has grown faster than any other Indian metro since the Purple Line Whitefield extension opened.
